Chiropractor puts a sports spin on upcoming Spartanburg practice

It's a reality the former quarterback for the University of Toledo faced during his playing days, which led him to pursue a career in chiropractic.

Riddle, 35, of Ohio plans to put those experiences to work for Spartanburg when he opens his new fitness-minded practice, Southeast Sports Chiropractic on Sept. 19 at 115 Southport Road.

“The landscape in Spartanburg is pretty well covered with offices that offer traditional chiropractic,” he said, “but I believe our concept makes us unique. To my knowledge, there's no one else in the Upstate that is doing what we plan to do.”

Riddle, a 2009 graduate and co-valedictorian of Spartanburg-based Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic, has partnered with fellow chiropractor and athlete Darryll Williams of North Carolina in the venture.

He said the practice will combine traditional chiropractic concepts with components that are geared toward athletes.

Riddle already has a partnership with Team Globalbike, which was founded in Spartanburg but now operates out of Charlotte, N.C. He said he hopes to work with sports teams at local colleges and high schools, but will be there for anyone seeking to get fit.

He said he will also work with Athletic Republic to provide individualized performance sports training.

Southeast Sports Chiropractic's other services will include nutrition consulting, rehabilitation, spinal decompression, laser therapy and passive modalities.

“We would never exclude anybody,” Riddle said. “Ideally, the goal of the business will be to optimize the health of residents in Spartanburg County and beyond.”

Riddle graduated from the University of Toledo in 2008 with a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology.

It was during his playing days that he determined to pursue chiropractic as his profession.

“I sustained a (football) injury my junior year of high school that gave me chronic neck pain,” Riddle said. “I had the opportunity to play arena football in 2003. The team had a chiropractor. After a couple of visits and a few adjustments the pain abated. I determined then and there that I was going to become a chiropractor.

Ronnie Hugh Hauser, 64 of Southport, NC died Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Universal Health Care in Bolivia.

Mr. Hauser was born August 1, 1947 in Forsyth County to the late Frank and Mary Boger Hauser. Mr. Hauser was a member of Beach Road Baptist Church, he had lived in the Southport area for the past four years, having moved here from Winston – Salem. Mr. Hauser was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Surviving is his wife of 35 years, Martha Hauser of the home; a son Joe Foster of Winston – Salem; a daughter Margaret Holbrook and husband Glenn of Lexington; his step-mother Marie Hauser of Winston – Salem; eight grandchildren, Chris Owens, Ashley McCartney, Jeremy Owens, Heily Holbrook, Conley Holbrook, Jessica Holbrook, Bridgett Foster, and Shannon Foster; eight great-grandchildren; an aunt Edith Pegram of Clemmons; and an uncle Eugene Hauser and wife Shirley of Pfafftown.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Beach Road Baptist Church in Southport with Reverend Jeff Saggus and Reverend Bill Wrenn officiating. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Heritage Hill Baptist Church in Winston – Salem with Reverend Jennings O’Neil and Reverend Gary McCullough officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Cemetery.
