I am getting private health insurance, and after I called a number on a radio commercial I was visited by a salesman for Healthmarket selling Mega Life and Health policies. I looked them up online, and found some shady stuff, but a lot of it seemed a couple years old and you have to think, very few people are going to go online to write good reviews. Please let me know your experience.
Mega is AM Best rated B++ with negative outlooks. Just based on their financial strength, I would stay away.
Additionally, they don’t sell comprehensive health insurance policies. The main reason why people complain about insurance policies, is because their claims get denied. The main reason claims get denied with Mega, is that the coverage is VERY LIMITED. People tend to buy insurance based on PRICE, instead of coverage, and, well, cheap health insurance is CRAPPY coverage, and then people get mad!! THAT isn’t fair to Mega.
So. If you WANT to buy from Mega, don’t let the salesman distract you – read exactly what is covered – and what isn’t covered. Pay particular attention to LIMITS of coverage. If you have four doctor visits, how much do they pay? If you have a $50,000 bout with appendicitis, how much do you pay? If you’re stuck with $40,000 in out of pocket expenses, because your policy limits coverage in hospital to $10,000, how happy will you be?
With health insurance, you get what you pay for. There’s no “free lunch”.
