Letters: Living United improves our communities

Thank you to more than 900 West Michigan volunteers who joined together on Sept. 9 and 10 for the 2011 United Way of the Lakeshore Day of Caring in Muskegon, Newaygo and Oceana counties.

Sept. 9, Muskegon’s 800 volunteers were led by Day of Caring Committee chairman Mark Evans. These volunteers completed landscaping, painting and carpentry at Mullally Park in Laketon Township, and at the new West Michigan Therapy location in Muskegon.

Also on Sept. 9 in Newaygo County, 75 volunteers worked at the Newaygo County Fairground cleaning, building, painting and landscaping.

On Sept. 10, 25 Oceana County volunteers entertained residents at the Oceana Medical Care Facility with a talent and animal show. Volunteers also landscaped the facility’s garden and a volunteer photographer took photographs of residents and their families.
