Purdue to open online survey for president search

A survey allowing community members to give input on the search for Purdue University's next president should be online next week, University Senate Chairman Morry Levy told members of the board of trustees Friday.

During a stated meeting of the board, Levy updated trustees on the special advisory committee formed at the board's request to solicit input as the university ramps up the search to replace outgoing President France Córdova, who steps down in 2012.

One of the ways the 25-member committee -- with members from multiple faculty, staff and student groups -- will form its recommendations is through an online survey that Levy said should be up by next week.

"We're going to open up the response to the whole Purdue community -- faculty, staff and students," Levy said. "It's a relatively short survey. It's mostly open-ended."

It's the committee's goal to have a set of recommendations to the search committee by close to the end of November. The recommendations will be made public, Levy said.

"This is going to be as transparent as possible," Levy said. "You may not agree with our recommendations, but you will know them."

During the meeting, trustees also approved the employee health care plan for 2012. The 2012 medical plan budget is $151 million, with the university's contribution increasing by 6 percent to $10,580 per employee.

Employees' costs, meanwhile, will increase 10 percent for the choice premium plan, 15 percent for the incentive plan premium with an increase in out-of-pocket maximums and co-insurance, and 30 percent for the co-pay plan premium with increases in out-of-pocket maximums and co-insurance.

The plan includes a surcharge for tobacco users of $250 for 2012 and $500 for 2013. The charge will be waived for those who certify they have not been a tobacco user for the past 12 months or who complete an approved tobacco cessation program.

Officials will continue to evaluate the possibility of an on-site integrated health center with the goal of lowering health care costs. Such a center was recommended by the Blue Ribbon Healthcare Committee formed last year.
