State picks Wallingford non-profit to coordinate HUSKY healthcare plan

Community Health Network of Connecticut, headquartered at 11 Fairfield Boulevard, was picked by the state Department of Social Services to coordinate the HUSKY Plan for children and families, Medicaid and the Charter Oak Health Plan. The new work will add more than 100 jobs to the Wallingford location.

The company beat out Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Iowa Foundation for Medical Care in partnership with Qualidigm and AmeriChoice of Connecticut Inc. for the right to negotiate the contract. Community Health Network had previously worked in administration of the HUSKY Plan.

“CHNCT is very excited to continue its partnership with the Department of Social Services and serve the HUSKY, Charter Oak, Medicaid for Low Income Adults and Medicaid for the Aged, Blind and Disabled populations,” the company said in a statement. “As a not-for-profit organization sponsored by seven federally qualified health centers in the state, it is our mission to improve the health of underserved and vulnerable populations throughout Connecticut.”

Earlier this year, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said the state

“In essence, we are paving the way for improved customer service for HUSKY and Medicaid enrollees while pursuing savings for hard-pressed taxpayers,” Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman said in a statement.

The programs represent approximately $4.6 billion annually and are the largest service expenditure in the state budget, according to Wyman.

The move to one administrative service will also help people better understand their medical coverage, coordinate doctor appointments and referrals and make care more accessible. Social Services Commissioner Roderick L. Bremby said the new system will be a much-needed improvement for older and disabled patients.

“For the first time, older adults and persons with disabilities with complex health care needs will get help from the Medicaid system in terms of care coordination,” he said in a statement. “The new system will offer support to our enrollees by working with their doctors and other health care providers to attain the best outcomes possible.

What type of job / career is this and how do i find openings for this job. I met someone on a plane recently, and he worked for BCBS traveling to companies and setting them up with their massive group health plans for their employees. He would analyze the benefits they would get, and consult the company on the tax benefits they would get if they offered their employees different plans. So I guess you could say he was providing financial services and consulting. I am looking for an entry level job in such a field. I have experience in the business world, but I want to get into consulting and financial advisement more. Not stock brokering, series 7 , or any of those type financial service sales though. Does anyone know how i can find jobs like these? what is the “title” for a job like i am describing so i can find openings on monster.
